Andrew Folkes

Andrew is the Billing/Costs Manager, and has over 25 years’ experience working in small to medium-sized law firms. He has a long career in accounts and finance, dating back to the early 1990s, having held roles as a payroll clerk and as a finance officer. His first role in costs was in 1992 followed by a short stint as Practice Manager for a local law firm in 1998. However, it was on joining renowned human rights, civil liberties and immigration specialist Winstanley Burgess in 2000 that his passion for costs was developed. The quality of work that was done for some of the most marginalised in society was enough to peak his interest in law and securing costs settlements. He has since worked in other distinguished law firms, including Kingley Napley; Bindmans LLP and GT Stewart. Andrew has also worked extensively as a freelance cost draftsman for a wide range of firms with practises in civil litigation, criminal and family areas of law.

Andrew joined the Law Centre in 2017 and his duties include preparing bills with Inter Partes costs orders, settling points of dispute and submitting legal aid bills through the Legal Aid Agency’s CCMS platform. In addition to his daily duties, Andrew is actively engaged in helping the Law Centre to chase debts and deal with the reconciliation of historic debt matters. He also liaises with third party professionals and organisations in securing revenue which is well needed by the Law Centre. He works from all offices at the Law Centre, developing a working relationship with our team of fee earners, and other members of staff, to hone best working practices.
