Originally a volunteer, Eva joined the Money Advice team as an adviser in 2019. Her interest in money and debt advice came from watching a documentary entitled ‘Schuldig’ (which is a play in words in Dutch for both debt and guilty), which highlighted the stigma that so often surrounds being in debt. Eva is passionate about ensuring people disassociate debt from guilt as so often it’s circumstances beyond a person’s control that result in money troubles and debt:
“The problem with a negative stigma like this is that it can make money hard to talk about and even harder to ask for help when things go wrong.”
As well as giving practical help such as contacting creditors on a client’s behalf or negotiating with gas and electricity providers or applying for different schemes, Eva recognises the importance of her role in supporting clients through their situation. She believes no one should have to face such problems alone.
