After volunteering at the Law Centre for around two years to gain experience in different areas of law, Ruby started her role as a money advisor in 2019. She has a particular interest in personal budgets and income maximisation and finds it very rewarding being able to help people with managing their money. By breaking down different outgoing payments and identifying expenses through direct debits clients have forgotten, they can often find solutions to their debt, based on income and their expenses.
Ruby is seeing increasing numbers of clients with problems stemming from zero-hours contracts, ‘buy now, pay later’ schemes, issues surrounding Universal Credit, and those with multiple debts from the same company. She believes lenders are indirectly encouraging more debt by not carrying out their checks properly and so would like to see stricter affordability checks with greater penalties for lenders.
