We are proud to join the nationwide commemoration of Refugee Week, a time dedicated to celebrating the resilience, courage, and contributions of refugees to our society. From 19 June to 25 June, Refugee Week provides a platform for us to reflect on the challenges faced by displaced individuals while highlighting their incredible journeys of survival and hope.
Refugee Week offers us an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by refugees and to celebrate their resilience. Through our dedicated team of legal professionals and support staff, we have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of providing access to justice and essential services for individuals seeking refuge. One of our clients came to the UK from West Africa in 2010 on a student visa to escape civil war; when our solicitor, Paul Keeley took his case in 2020, fate changed for *Youssouf:
“You have helped me a lot this year. I was hopeless when I lost my asylum case against the Home Office in December 2018. Around August 2020, Paul Keeley took my case. His first phone call was very assuring, giving me hope again. Paul went on to succeed in getting my leave to remain based on my son and then the refugee status a few months later. He made successful a case that not many solicitors were giving me a chance of success as my case was a very complex one.”

During this week, we invite you to learn more about the experiences of refugees and the critical role legal support plays in their journey towards stability and rebuilding their lives. By engaging in meaningful conversations, attending events, and supporting organizations like SWLLC, we can collectively create an environment that nurtures compassion, empathy, and solidarity.
“Refugee Week celebrates stories of resilience and unity. From representing a client in their asylum appeal to reuniting them with loved ones, it’s those unforgettable moments, like posing for a photo together, that remind me of the power of compassion and the strength of refugee families.”
~ Rajitha Kumar, Solicitor, Asylum and Immigration Supervisor
Together, let us celebrate Refugee Week and reaffirm our commitment to standing with refugees, providing them with the support they need to thrive in their new homes.
