“Having the decision made in my favour should really benefit my life and help me quite a lot… immensely.”

When *Bob was first referred to South West London Law Centres by his local Citizens Advice, he was overwhelmed and struggling to cope. After being refused Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and awarded zero points, his mandatory reconsideration had also been unsuccessful.

Living with both physical and mental health conditions and being neurodivergent made the process deeply distressing:

“I couldn’t do it… I even struggled with the initial application… I was really going downhill… struggling… the stress was killing me.”

That’s when Bob met Asad Islam, one of our welfare benefits advisers. Over several months, Asad worked closely with Bob, helping him gather medical evidence, prepare detailed appeal submissions, and understand what to expect at the tribunal.

“Your involvement helped me immensely because I struggled a lot… To actually have support with filing the tribunal paperwork, the right wording and coming to court with me was a real big help.”

There were moments when Bob felt unable to attend the hearing, but with Asad’s steady encouragement and support from his sister, he found the strength to see it through.

After a 90-minute hearing, Bob was awarded PIP at the enhanced rate for both Daily Living and Mobility. He received a lump sum of over £15,000 and ongoing payments of £749 every four weeks.

“That’s why I was so grateful when it came through… thank you. It will give me quality of life improvements that make things easier for me.”

The outcome has brought real relief and stability. Bob shared how it will help him manage his health and daily needs:

“Being able to get food when I don’t have to go hungry… without having to go short on one to get another. If the doctor asks me to try this, I should now have the money to try it… whereas before I couldn’t.”

Bob’s story is a powerful reminder of how expert support and persistence can transform lives, not just financially, but emotionally and practically.
