We offer a series of free webinars and workshops on a range of subjects.

Our free webinars and workshops last for around one hour and give you the chance to ask questions about your personal circumstances. If you need help accessing our online sessions, please contact us in advance here and we’ll do what we can to help you.

NEW WEBINAR: eVisa Transition

Guidance on creating a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, applying for an eVisa, and explaining why this step is crucial as the Home Office transitions to digital services. Learn how to navigate the process and ensure a smooth transition before Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and most Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs) expire by 31 December 2024. This session is focused on practical support—note that we do not provide immigration advice.

We will be running a session on the first Thursday of every month, alternating start times between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm (midday). Each session will be an hour long

Manage and Maximise Your Money

Led by Roni Marsh from the South West London Law Centre, this webinar merges essential bill management tactics with income maximisation strategies. Topics cover securing entitled benefits, practical tips for reducing expenses including household bills, getting money off of food shopping and other household expenditure items. Universal Credit: an overview

Confused about universal credit? This webinar, aimed at those who are new to Universal Credit or already claiming but struggling to understand how it is worked out, will explain what you need to know and how to claim. Run by the Law Centre’s Roni Marsh, it will cover:

  • how to claim
  • how an award is worked out
  • what problems you may have in making a claim
  • how to check your award and make sure it is correct
  • how to appeal a decision you think is wrong.

Disability benefits

This webinar with Roni Marsh at South West London Law Centres is aimed at those who are considering claiming disability benefits but want more information about them.  It will cover the following benefits:

  • Disability Living Allowance for up to age 16
  • Personal Independence Payment for working age
  • Attendance Allowance for those who are retired

It will look at whether you should be claiming disability benefits, how they work and the problems you may find with making a claim. As well as including information on the three main disability benefits and the criteria for claiming them, it will explain what you need to consider when filling in your application form, such as important phrases you should include (e.g. ‘repeatedly’, ‘safely’, ‘to an acceptable standard’ and ‘in a reasonable time’) and how to get more information and help if you don’t feel confident completing it on your own. 

Also covered are how decision makers go about considering an application form, the criteria they use for each of the benefits, and what to do if you don’t get awarded the benefit.

This webinar, with the Law Centre’s Roni Marsh, is aimed at those who are currently carers or are about to become carers. It covers the different benefits available for carers, things to consider before making a claim and any potential problems with a claim. It also gives an overview of the other discounts, deals and services available for those who are carers.

Council Tax Discretionary Reduction

This is a one hour webinar to find out how to apply for Council Tax Discretionary Reduction.  This is a little known option where you can apply to the local Council to have all or part of the Council Tax debt written off if there is no way that it can be afforded now or in the foreseeable future by the person who owes it.  This webinar covers the process of applying and how to appeal if the initial application is refused.

Subject Access Requests for Medical Records

This is a one hour webinar to find out how to apply for a Subject Access Request.  This is a way to get copies of medical records and documents free of charge. The webinar covers what to do if the initial application is not successful. It is aimed at those who need medical records for benefit advice, housing advice and grant applications but should cover everyone who needs them for any reason.

Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP)

This is a one hour webinar which covers what a DHP is, the to see if you qualify to apply for one, how to make the application and what documents and information are generally needed. There is also a look at the reasons why a DHP might be unsuccessful and what you can do before applying to try and avoid this.
