Volunteers’ Week

Volunteers’ Week is an annual opportunity to focus on the amazing contribution that volunteers make up and down the country and to say thank you.

At the Law Centre we are incredibly grateful to our wonderful team of volunteers who help in so many different ways – from ensuring the smooth running of our offices to supporting our caseworkers with specific tasks and carrying out vital research. This is of course in addition to the hundreds of pro bono lawyers who dedicate their time and legal knowledge to ensure people have access to justice. We simply couldn’t do it without you!

We believe volunteering is very much a two-way process and so we strive to ensure all our volunteers have the opportunity to develop useful skills and experience during their time with us. Here’s what some past and present volunteers had to say:

The experience I’ve gained from volunteering has been really beneficial. I’ve learnt that you have to be organised and up to date as a caseworker, and it’s also given me much more confidence in talking to people and dealing with clients. The work can be challenging, and you never know what situation you’ll have to deal with when you answer the phone, but it’s been hugely valuable and a great opportunity to network and to learn from the team who’ve really taken the time to explain things to me. I don’t think the same opportunity would have existed in private practice.’ Ilnta

From key professional skills, through talking confidently to clients and institutions, to training with a fantastic and experienced team, it’s been a special and unique experience working for the Law Centre’s money advice team.’ Alex

One of the main skills I gained from volunteering was the ability to manage my time in order to complete all my assigned tasks. This is a skill I believe is transferable to any job.’ Swabra

It’s notable that many of our existing staff team began their journey with the Law Centre as a volunteer, and we’re so pleased they chose to stay with us.

If you share our passions of justice, equality and compassion and would be interested in volunteering for us, please get in touch here.
